beets
beets. runners. beet other runners because you eat beets.
BEETS. Okay I would like to start out by saying okay EW. Personally I think they're disgusting. Some people don't though (power to you Hailey Purtzer! she eats bowls full).
But beets are AMAZING. Especially if you're a runner. Beets help to decrease the amount of oxygen your body needs to MOVE. They are a very nitrate rich vegetable. When nitrate (NO3-) enters your body, it is converted to nitrite (NO2 -2) which helps to oxygenate your blood. So when you're running, you don't have to exert as much effort to go faster. Eat beets a couple hours before a competition and your body will thank you. There was a study done on nutritionfacts.org that Dr. Greger talks about. If you wanna know more, go check it out. If you don't care how they work, then just eat them. I decreased my 5k time by 30 seconds by eating a can of beets before my race. Beets give you wings. I swear by it.
But also MORE. Beets. They got all sorts of nutrients. They got the calcium, iron, vitamin A and C, folic acid, fiber, manganese, and potassium. They will detox your liver which is so cool and fight cancer (specifically colon and stomach cancer). And nobody wants that. Eat beets. Even if you hate them.
